Touching My Heart

A few things have touched my heart recently and I wanted to share.  Since being on this church search, we've been listening to a lot of Charles Stanley's teachings.  He has a program on television Sunday mornings in addition to radio broadcasts.  He is a great bible teacher.  One Sunday (I stayed home because my husband worked that day, I don't go try a new church alone!)  After Charles Stanley's television program was the Gaither Music Hour on another station.  A fitting Sunday morning worship service for me. . . teaching and music.  I don't usually listen to the new Gaither music, it's just way to contemporary for my taste.  This particular Sunday they featured The Oak Ridge Boys  I have loved them since I was a little girl!  This particular song really touched my heart~

Did I Make a Difference

I'm caught up in the push and shove The daily grind, burning time, spinning wheels
I wonder what I'm doing here
Day to day. year to year, standing still

Somewhere there's a teacher with a heart that never quits
Staying after school to help some inner city kids
A mother who's a volunteer, a soldier In the fight
I can't help'but ask myself when I lay down at night

Did I make a difference in somebody's life?
What hurts did I heal? What wrongs did I right?
Did I raise my voice in defense of the truth?
Did I lend my hand to the destitute?
When my race Is run, when my song is sung
Will I have to wonder, did I make a difference?
Did I make a difference?

I've been, working hard to make a living
And forgetting what true living is Taking more than giving, something's missing
Lord, how long can I go on like this?

There's a lonely old man down the street
And I should be ashamed I've never been to see him, I don't even know his name
There's kids without their supper in my own
neighborhood
Will I look back someday and say that I did all I could?

Did I make a difference in somebody's life?
What hurts did I heal? What wrongs did I right?
Did I raise my voice in defense of the truth?
Did I lend my hand to the destitute?
When my race is run, when my song is sung
Will I have to wonder, did I make a difference?
Did I make a difference?

When my race is run, when my song is sung
Will I have to wonder, did I make a difference?
Did I make a difference?
When my race is run, when my song is sung
Will I have to wonder, did I make a difference?
Did I make a difference? Did I make a difference?

I went to a church with my friend Alison, shortly before she moved.  It is famous for being the first African American church in our county.  The service was. . . very different.  They had a LONG, praise and worship time.  Praise and worship was followed by baptisms and new church membership.  At the baptismal time one younger man started singing acapela "Wade In The Water".  Oh MY!  What a beautiful song.  By the end of the song, the full instruments and a children's choir accompanied him.  It was beautiful!  I was moved to tears by this arrangement of that song.  I had never even heard it before.  I tried to find a good representation of it to post here.

  1. Hi there, I am sorry this comes so late (this is the first time in a couple of days I have signed in)...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!By the way, I am also searching for a new church. It's difficult to find a new church home...living in a country with a lot of Catholic churches doesn't leave me with a lot of choice, and I don't want to drive more than 45min to go to church. How far would you drive? Are there lots of churches where you live?

  2. @lunemoon - There are lots of churches!  We are having a hard time finding the one that fits just right without compromising some of our personal convictions.  We only have 11 months before another move anyway.  I'd be happy to just 'try' a new one every Sunday from now until we move.   Even for churches of our denomination, in this area,  there are so many influences of the Catholic and Lutheran churches.30-40 minutes would be a max drive for us.  Even then,  with traffic at other times of the day, it wouldn't be worth it to try to get to one that far away for Sunday night or Wednesday's service times.  (being a good steward of our time )Not sure what denomination you are, there are helpful web sights to help locate churches in any denomination. Thanks for the birthday wishes and the sweet mini!

  5. Glad you have had a blessed Sunday even without a church home, God still gets the glory.  I just was recently introduced to youtube and I spent hours there one day listening to many of my favorites.  I too love Gaither Music, I love the quartets, the vocal band, David Phelps, Mike Lowry, wow so much talent there.  When those tenors get into their music, I get goose bumples all over.  Momeeee
