Oriental Hamburger Casserole

1 1/4 pounds ground beef
1 medium onion -- chopped
1/4 stick margarine
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups sliced celery
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup sliced water chestnuts -- drained
1 (1 lb-12 oz.)can bean sprouts -- drained
4 ounces sliced mushrooms -- drained

3 tablespoons cold water
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon LA CHOY Brown Gravy Sauce

Cook ground beef and onion until slightly browned; add salt, pepper, celery, margarine and water. Bring to a boil; let simmer 15 minutes. Add remaining vegetables; heat through. Combine thickening ingredients; add to meat-vegetable mixture and toss to blend well. Cook until slightly thickened, stirring constantly, about 1-2 minutes. Serve over hot cooked rice or chow mien noodles.

Chow Mein Noodle Casserole

  1. This does look good.  Is it hard to make?  Thanks for your sweet comment.

  2. Easy.  Check on line for other versions.  I have another recipe that calls for cream of mushroom soup and soy sauce.  I don't think you need the gravy sauce... I have something similar and it's called browning or something like that.

  3. This is like the stir fry Mom always made.  With the burger and the crunchy noodles.

  4. Oh I am fixing this for dinner tonight.  Thank you so much for the recipe.  Yummy.
