Almost Wordless Wednesday

PRETTY!

I'm not sure why, but my Christmas cactus decided to bloom.  Just one really beautiful flower in a hot pink color.  This is the first time in eight years it's bloomed.  I think it means it's feeling pretty good.

  3. That plant has been spending the last eight years chanting to itself, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..." and ((poof)) there you go.  It kind of makes me chuckle.  And it is very pretty!

  4. Christmas Cacti are such perplexing plants. My old one (which was my great-grandmother's) always puts forth a few blooms at Easter (I've blogged about this before) and then a random one here and there throughout the year....it is the same color as yours. My newer one (four years old, I think, and a Christmas gift from a friend) sticks more closely to the calendar and puts on a show at Christmas only.

  5. @AmericanJanet - This one is very old as well.  Iv'e had it 21 years.  I got it from my roommate who said it belonged to her Finnish Grandmother.  When mine was healthy 8 years ago, it would bloom Christmas and Easter.  Do you have any with white or peach blooms?

  6. @betheelou - No, only two and they are both pink. Have you ever rooted a new one? You just break off pieces and stick them in a pot of dirt and keep it sort of moist...it doesn't take much. I started one for my mother last year off of Grandma's, and it is doing very well. Didn't bloom last Christmas, but I think it might this year.
