Day Five

Today started out with a light rain and at times was pretty heavy all day.  The blessing in the rain was that it kept the heat and dust down making today a pleasant drive.

We saw two bear today.  The one who got photographed, actually stayed still long enough for us to snap a picture.  The other went by really fast.  We also saw coyote, moose, elk, deer and bison today.

The big excitement today were the several hours we spent at Laird Hot Springs.  Oh, what bliss.  Like a nice hot bath in a jetted tub without the jets!  Tonight we are in Fort Nelson, British Columbia.  We traveled around 300 miles.  The motel we are staying,  has a great waterslide with a pool and fantastic hot tub, if we could only use them!  Yes, they are closed for repairs!  Went to a pizza place for dinner again tonight.  I had ribs, the boys all had pizza.  We still haven't traveled far enough to enjoy a wide variety of dining establishments.

All the pets have been traveling extremely well.  Banjo the dog is so mellow and easy going.  He is afraid he is going to be left somewhere.  If we are out stretching and wander toward the van he will jump in even if we are not leaving.  We took him to a park tonight to play ball and found all we had to say was, "Are you ready to go?" and Banjo runs to the van.  The kitty Shadow is also being very good.  She stays crated ALL day and we let her out when we stop for the night.  She tries to find places to hide, such as; under dresses, in the boxsprings of the beds, in cupboards, under sinks, in holes in sheetrock walls, behind window curtains and last night had to try to squeeze in the 3 inch space behind the television in the entertainment center.  At 4:00 a.m. in the morning the sound of her rattling around is quite loud.

Road scenery today was much the same as yesterday.  Lots of long stretches of road with mountains on either side.  Lots and lots of rivers.  They are very muddy or dirty looking.  Lots of glacier silt and no fish.  No road construction today.  It rained all day though.  Looks like the scenery will change tomorrow as we seem to have hit the plains for a while.
